Toxic Chemical Exposure
Did you ever wonder why people like you and me are developing mild to serious illness and allergies that are not part of our genetic make-up? Did you ever wonder why the need for medications and supplements are necessary to sustain our health and well being? Obviously the ageing process along with our genetic differences do create some of our health problems. I and many of my colleagues consider the fact that Toxic chemical exposure is the 21st century cause of our bodily distress.
Toxic and hazardous chemicals represent the most potential serious health and environmental problem confronting our nation today. The very air we breath, our water supply, the urbanization of former agricultural land and toxic spills and dumps add up to an extremely serious and fast growing nationwide problem.
Over 80,000 chemicals are in use today resulting in over 4,000,000 compounds. Our bodies absorb these chemicals, herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, plasticers, food preservatives, aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, petroleum based solvents, heavy metals. They enter our bodies by inhalation, ingestion, dermal contact. Many of these chemicals are detoxified by our own natural biochemical process, but many metabolize in the body and remain in our intracellar and extracellar tissues. Many of these toxic substances are stored in the fat, liver, and brain and can slowly leach out over long spans of time to create chronic damage to our major organ systems. Some of the long term affects include neurological disease, organic psychosis, respiratory disease, musculoskeletal disorders, blood dyscrasias, kidney disease, liver damage, endocrine disorders, immunological disorders, and various forms of cancer.
Inhalation is a major route of exposure in the home and workplace.Formaldehyde is given off from particle board, carpet, upholstery materials, foam insulation, shoe polish and many other products. Copy machine chemicals, inks, and cleaning materials release toxicants in the air. At home we are exposed to termitocides, pesticides, carpeting, insulation materials, cleaning products, paints, glues, and solvents. Inhalants are becoming much worse since we are sealing our homes and offices for air conditioning
